These categories depends on their creators: Spotify Official, Major Playlisters, and Indie Playlisters. Identifying these three categories will make the playlist ecosystem clearer for you and help to increase the success rate of your tracks.

Spotify Playlists

Spotify playlists usually generates the most plays out of all other playlists. There are two main types of Spotify Playlists: Algorithmically Generated and Editor-Curated playlists. All the three largest labels on Spotify—Topsify (Warner), Dingster (Universal), and FILTR (SONY), own three individual playlist companies. They are the major sources of Spotify playlists.

These three have their own playlisting companies because it allows them another vehicle to push records on the platform without depending on Spotify curators. For example, in any given Topsify playlist, you will most likely find that a great majority of the playlisted tracks are Warner releases. You can locate specific playlists within each major profile and go from there.
